" Simple, small, lightweight, convenient macro lens. I use it quite often to shooting items with a 1.5x-cropped camera: in this case, the focal distance is ‘changing’ to 75mm, and it enough for usual purposes. I can say more – I’m continuing to use it for short and simple tasks even after got MD 100mm F4.0 macro lens because convenience attracts. A lot of ‘portraits’ of other lenses in reviews on this site have been made with this ‘fifty’. "
" This lens shows that it is a true macro lens with excellently corrected aberrations. The lens performs well enough in the center at all apertures and the corners improve stopping down. However, I should point out that the lens doesn’t perform any better over the same aperture range as most standard 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 lenses, other than for distortion and CA (which is what a macro lens is designed for). It is worth pointing out that this lens is more compact than the Vivitar 55mm f/2.8 Macro, mainly because it doesn’t focus 1:1, it doesn’t need the large focusing mechanism to extend the lens out that far. "
